Mela Meierhans

Mela Meierhans was born in 1961 in Switzerland, and already received important stimuli in artistic matters from her parents at home (in contemporary music and painting). Fundamental creative concerns of hers are complexity and openness; interdisciplinary collaboration and development of interactive scores in the realms of music, dance, film, performance, theatre, installation and architecture. Since 2003, her work has centred on music theatre and music in (public) spaces. From 1998 to 2000, she was a guest composer at the Electronic Studio of the Basle MusicAcademy, and, besides various prizes and bursaries for her work, she has composed tcommissions from institutions including the Hanover State Opera, the Lucerne

Festival, the MaerzMusik Berlin,  the ‘Experimentale Leipzig’, the Berlin ‘Composition Commissions’, the Amplitudes-Aperghis Festival, the Basle Symphony Orchestra, the Roosevelt Ensemble in Washington, the Basle Sinfonietta, the Berlin Klangwerkstatt, and the Basle Live Electronic Days.

She has done audio design for Radio DRS 2, Pro Helvetia and others. Since 2000, Mela Meierhans has lived and worked in Berlin and Basle, and since 1988 also in Vaux la Douce in France.
